Auditor’s Report: Municipal Water Infrastructure Severely Underfunded

In a January 2017 report, MA Auditor Suzanne Bump called for a more holistic” approach to meeting water infrastructure needs in the Commonwealth. The study found that communities will have unmet spending needs of upwards of $17.8 billion over the next 20 years, and called for a combination of both state and federal funds. The Auditor advocated for primacy, stating that MassDEP should assume responsibility over NPDES permitting and regulations.
